Advertising is more about increasing awareness than about changing opinions. Can you think of a strongly held opinion you have that was changed due to advertising? Could you even imaging a SHO shifting due to advertising? Would an ad change your opinion of Trump? Would it change your opinion on abortion or climate change? Would you shift beliefs on what the right level of taxation should be? Or the extent to which the world is becoming a better or worse place?
I believe the author gives advertising far to much credit and power. If it really was that powerful marketers jobs would be a lot easier…
